Custom tools remove the need for a local MCP server in most Cursor workflows. But not all of them.

Cursor SDK v3.7 shipped a custom-tools API that lets you wire Jira, Postgres, or any internal service directly into the editor. For single-editor setups, that means no sidecar process and no JSON-RPC boilerplate. But if multiple clients need the same capability, or you want to share tools with Make, n8n, or Claude Code, a full MCP server is still the right call. The guide below walks the decision tree: when custom tools are enough, when MCP wins, and where automation platforms fit. Code snippets included. Read the full breakdown.

OpenAI files its confidential S-1 with the SEC.
JUNE 10TH · PONDERO NEWSDESK
The filing follows March 2026’s $122B raise at an $852B valuation, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as underwriters. A fall 2026 listing is possible. When the public S-1 drops, it will be the first audited look at revenue by segment (ChatGPT consumer vs. enterprise vs. API). That $852B would slot OpenAI into the top 15 of the S&P 500. Source.

Apple rebuilds Siri on Google Gemini, opens Claude and ChatGPT as iPhone defaults.
JUNE 10TH · PONDERO NEWSDESK
At WWDC on June 8, Apple announced a roughly $1 billion-per-year Gemini licensing deal (per Bloomberg) and a new Extensions framework in iOS 27 that lets users set Claude or ChatGPT as the default for all Apple Intelligence features. That ends OpenAI’s exclusive arrangement. Claude gets opt-in access to 2.5B+ active Apple devices for the first time. Coverage.

Claude Code ships Dynamic Workflows in research preview.
JUNE 10TH · PONDERO NEWSDESK
Parallel subagent orchestration is now live: Claude Code breaks tasks into subtasks and runs them concurrently. If you do multi-file refactors or parallel test suites, this changes how you structure the work. Direct competitor to Cursor’s built-in agent mode and Cline’s parallel execution. Anthropic blog.
